Welcome to My Red Cape. Long ago in another time my husband Jack and I lived in a little old red house. It was the stuff of dreams to us for the few years that we were there. I live there still a number of hours every day in imagination, with old dolls and paintings and fabrics and feather trees. I draw inspiration and happiness from the memories of that space in time and share some of it here with friends who remember how to step with Alice through the looking glass and take delight in whimsies and antiquities. ~Edyth O’Neill

Jack and the bean stalk?

Here is Jackie, rewraping the brown tissue paper on the trunk of a nice old feather tree we bought at the F Burg antique show 2 weeks back from friend Ann. We cut inch wide strips of brown tissue paper from the craft store, and put a small amount of elmer's glue all along the paper strip. Then we wrap the trunk and squeeze the paper together every little bit and it all goes together like paper mache.
Years ago we made some trees and he turned nice wooden bases for them. We sold several dozen and learned a bit about the simple ways to restore them when branches come loose or something else minor happens. So 20 years later here we are with our box of tree mending supplies helping another one go for more Christmas times. We lost some nice ones in the fire, but have several back now. Penny gave us a good replica tree, which we have put on an early base we had, and that small one is just right to fit in the doll case. It is fun to get out the old holiday things and repair and straighten them up to enjoy them yet another year. The elephant on wheels (who spent a miserable year in the attic) is watching all this carefully, I am sure he plans to stand beside this tree this year. Best, Edyth
